IMHO, I don't think it's the same light quality. For instance... A halogen bulb probably gives out better warmth and light quality than a 99p ASDA spot. Not saying there's anything wrong with the supermarket spots but some reptile ones do have the UVA benefit in them..and halogen bulbs - overall I think a better heat, light and spread. Some are built to last approx 1000's of hours and with halogens you also can get the choice of 2 types (depending on your choice of where you want the spread to go). Granted...any of them could blow ..as could a combined...as could a conked out starter for a strip...as could a fuse. xx

I thought all incandescent light bulbs gave off a small amount of UVA, regardless as to whether they are reptile or normal bulbs.

Ooo I feel an experiment coming on... All we need is a dark room, a lamp, a normal spot bulb, a reptile spot bulb, a halogen bulb and a light meter, one that does UV too...

Reptile specific bulbs are 90% a load of rubbish! They don't last and it's cheaper and easier to get standard spot bulbs from the supermarkets
