HELP?? red food, blood, cut, picture attached. HELP
Hello all,
I am new to this, i've signed up as i need help with my red foot :help: He (i think it's a he) is about seven years old now and i have never had this problem before: His shell is constantly cutting his back legs when he walks, I haven't noticed a difference in the way he walk? Here is a picture of when it is slightly healed, Currently his legs are cut again, and bloody! please help, very worried about my little chap |

Your substrate doesn't look very deep nor does it look very damp. If your Redfoot can't get his/her legs underneath itself to walk (ie slipping on the bottom of the enclosure) than the edge of the shell will scrape the legs like it is doing. You need to have a good 6 to 8 inches of damp substrate for your Redfoot to walk on properly.
Your probably going to have to go to the vet to get a topical antibiotic ointment to put on the leg to help it heal and prevent an infection. Danny

I would suggest that you take this tortoise to a specialist vet and get this checked. Infection can go inwardly and cause very big problems and sometimes death.
Can you give us some pictures of your set up so that we can give you some help. Have you checked the underneath of that area of shell? is it rough? if it is you can use an emery board to smooth it (but not a metal one) Please get this checked out Good luck
