It's very simple to provide UVB lighting. But also very expensive. If you have a lot of animals that need D3 then it is so much cheaper to supplement. I have 3 parrots, 2 torts and a beardie who all need D3. I can't afford to provide UVB lighting for them all so I use supplements. Except for my beardie who is difficult to supplement. He has a UVB tube. He only has that on for a few hours a day or he hides away from it.
