Too late to start hibernation process?
Hiya guys
My Hermanns Vincey is 5 years old. I haven't hibernated him before, but I did plan on hibernating him this year. However, in the process of moving house in the last couple of months, I haven't even thought about what needed doing until now. Am I too late to start slowing him down for hibernation?? |

I wouldn't think so. Especially if your using a fridge. Just make sure your wind down is well planned out

With the weather having been so warm, many outside torts are only just starting their wind down. It's not too late.

assuming you are only aiming for about 8 weeks hibernation which can be as late as including march next year you have plenty of time, wind down could still be january (4 weeks). It doesn't matter what months you choose although waking in April at the latest is the norm, in fact its better if they are winding down/asleep during the coldest months which are usually after xmas. As its still so mild its best to wait anyway that way you have the cold weather helping the wind down.

i plan to hibernate my 6/7 yr old herman for the first time this year and I am going to wind him down through December ready for January onward.
As hes a re-homer to me this year I dont know if hes ever hibernated before and it certainly is a first for me so am keeping fingers crossed. So good luck to you too. sue |
