Dentists :(
I have had some really bad experiences in the last few years with a dentist.
My confidence has totally been lost and I couldn't believe that today, when having to correct some of my old dentists bad work (having root canal), I physically vomited and had the shakes I have never been like that, but today the prospect of having to endure the treatment and the possibility of things going wrong again was toOOoOOooOooo much for me to deal with I just wondered if anyone else has had such a bad experience that it has effected them in such a way? I am sure that once my confidence it restored, these symptoms will pass....however as this is a new dentists, having to place my faith in someone I really don't know is scary

I think it is quite a common thing as a few people I know cannot go to the dentist.
My mum has no bad experiences but just does not like them and really struggles to go up the stairs to the dentist as she gets really shaky. My best friend is a lot worse though, she doesn't mind the thought of the dentist or the bulid up of going there but as soon as she goes into the room she faints and she to has no bad experiences.

My son had a very bad experience with a dentist and now has to be sedated to have any work done. For this he goes to a specialist clinic that only takes referrals from other dentists, maybe there is one in your area you could go to. We don't pay for his treatment as he is only 12 , but adults there have told us that it costs no more than an ordinary NHS
dentists and they are very understanding actually i wish they where my dentists !

I can't say I enjoy the dentist experience but it only really makes me feel ill due to financial reasons. It used to be NHS then they went private and there was no NHS dentist near here so we had no choice but to stick with them. £10 something a month gets you a free check up once a year. I had a filling back in about March and it was £60. I'm on the list for the new NHS dentist here but I think it's 1-3 years waiting list

i would always rather go to the dentist, than the doctors, never ever bothered me, then my dentist left, and i got a new one, whom continued to drilll, even tho i tried to tell him i could feel it, i did all the holding my arm up, ect, until i had to push myself out of the chair, he was a horrid horrid man, and very unpleasent to me i now cant got to a dentist, i need to, but after 40 odd years of enjoying (?) the dentist, i now cant got |

I cant say I enjoy going to the dentist....not a nice trip, but a necessary one as I dont want to look like old Rachel Snaggletooth of Bristol. Someone straight off of the Jeremy Kyle show....
But sympathise with all your stories here. Especially T'Amore and Star....not nice at all. |

i hate going to the dentist its not the work that they do its just the noise that gets to me, u know the whizzing sound of the drill etc....
luckily my dentist now is very gentle has small hands that work quickly and allows me to wear my mp3 player while i get my teeth done so i can attempt to drown out the noise! i didnt go for 10yrs and its been 4 yrs since i went last but i am going on 27th of sept and i'm not looking forward to it! |

I dont enjoy going at all, again stems back from a bad experience when younger. BUT i make sure i go every 6 months for a check up, and also as my son is now old enough to see the dentist, i dont want him to see me worried, so he thinks there is somthing to worry about. Having said that if i need to have a filling i leave him with my mum, so he doesnt have to see me in a cold sweat.

I've had bad experiences at the dentist too. I'm only 24 and the Butcher of a dentist took 6 of my back teeth out for no reason!, he said they were bad, but they wasnt. so the back of my mouth is gappy all i have is my wisdom teeth on either bottom side, then a gap of 2 missing then the rest of my teeth going to the front.
I hate the noises too and the feeling after you get up as if ur gonna pass out because of the blood and the vibrations going through your head. I'd rather be put to sleep lol. I haven't been to that dentist since, I went to a new one and she was lovely. BUT i rang to make an appt the other week and i've been taken off the list now as i havent been for so long...BUT they never sent out appointment cards and if theres nothing wrong with my teeth im not going to ring them am i lol!. So i don't even have a dentist now

I had a really bad experience when I was about 6 years old when my new front teeth had grown at the back of my old ones. Obviously I had to have them taken out, however the dentist decided that I had to have them taken out alone and my dad was left standing in the corridor whilst I screamed my head off.
I still remember the experience to this day but it hasn't really affected me when I do go to the dentists now. I guess I don't really associate the visit with any pain at all which is maybe why it hasn't affected me badly. I'll happily still see my dentist on a regular basis as I think its important to have an eye kept on your teeth even though I do look after mine very well. I certainly don't want falsies when I'm older anyway Maybe you should look into some kind of therapy that would help you get over this? As its important to look after your teeth for a number of health reasons. Helen xx |
