Little help please :)
Well, can you believe it? The egg that dispaused for over 20 days started hatching just 4 days after the others in the same batch! talk about catching up!
Well he was growing sideways throughout incubation, folded vertically instead of across the middle and we thought he wouldnt be able to pip the egg, but amazingly he did last night! He straightened out in the egg as the egg sack went down, and was hatching fine. Just as he was almost out i realised the egg sack was leaking so i got him out myself as danny told me that bacteria would just breed in there. Now i have put him on some wet kitchen roll in a container in the incubator (thought i would try a different method to the vaseline in a bottle top that i done last time), but the water on the kitchen roll keeps getting really cold. Is there any advice on what i can do to keep him warm? Is there anything i can do to prevent infection? I have already lost a hatchling this year to do infection in the large egg sack and don't want to lose this one! Pics: He got this far on his own before i noticed the leakage and got him out Here he is now Thanks Last edited by Jemma1; 06-07-2011 at 03:12 PM. |

i use clingfilm cut into thin strips wraped around the centre of the tortoise so its legs are free but the film holds the yolk up to the plastron .
Although the yolk dosn't look that big . Last edited by NATURALIS; 06-07-2011 at 04:14 PM. |

Congrats on this little one. You must feel really relieved it's all okay.
