Default So, this is all new to me...

Hello, I'm tlc. A new tortoise owner and naturally, my first time here.

As my username suggests, I'm a writer. I have one book out right now and a couple more on the way. All fiction, as that is my thing. I just wish I could do things more quickly than I can.

I have chronic daily headache, migraine, and fibromyalgia, and get a lot of benefit from keeping animals. They anchor me and give me love and trust. It's all very important to me. Especially as I believe a home is for life and that is that.

I first heard of Shelled Warriors through Rabbits United, as somebody said there that forage for torts and for rabbits can be quite similar. And I'm a much more experienced rabbit owner than I am reptile owner.

Aside from my Horsefield's tortoise, Aurora, I also have a guinea pig (he recently lost his mate), four cats, a tank of tropical fish and eight rabbits. I'm especially passionate about rabbit welfare and am hoping to learn the proper care of torts quickly, especially as Aurora is my first.

I will, however, give Aurora her own introduction later...

Welcome to you and Aurora. Beautiful name.
I'm a bibliophile so would love to hear about your writing.

I completely empathise regarding migraine. It was the bain of my life for many years, leaving me fearing going out and driving alone. Attacks would come without warning and always with aura, often leaving me completely blind. Just hearing the word migraine strikes fear into me. I take a large dose of propranolol and pizotifen daily, plus clonazepam for other neuro problems, which transformed my life.
Animals definitely bring a lot to life don't they? We had a Netherlands Dwarf rabbit that lived for 14 years and 5 months and we sadly lost our Guinea pig Cookie last year, but her sister Popcorn has managed well without her and we still are blessed to have her with us.

I look forward to seeing photos of your menagerie, especially Aurora.

magnesium oil ! works wonders for migraine and all sorts of aches and pains. Can spray away anytime too. If you spray at night it relaxes you also. Its my second favourite bottle.

Hi and welcome!

I used to be on rabbits united, many moons ago!

You'll find plenty of helpful people here and LOTS of tortoise lovers!

Have you tried Reflexology for the migraine? My wife treated a long term sufferer who is now migraine free for 9 months.
(Not a plug for my wife)

Thanks for all the welcomes. My current treatment plan for migraine is Greater Occipital Nerve Blocks, with anaesthetic every 2 months... it's not perfect but it helps.
