Horsfield tortoise table help needed
We have our Horsfield Elvis in a glass fronted wooden viv cabinet at the moment but the glass got knocked when I was cleaning him out yesterday and now has a deep scratch in it which I think may well turn into a crack soon. We have been thinking about a tortoise table instead anyway so the question is if we don't want to replace it again any time soon (which we don't really) What is the best size to get for him. The viv is a 4 foot one and to me it does not give him much room to roam about even though he is still just a baby really, less than a year old. we are limited with space so is there any other option like a two layered table with a ramp to give him extra space to roam about? Its not as big a problem when it is warmer outside as he gets out in the garden but at the moment he is in doors for the winter. We have no plans to try and hibernate him any time soon either. We wondered about making our own but have no idea where to start so think a ready made one would be best. Any help would be appreciated

Give him as bigger one as you have space for is your best bet,a 2 layer one is a great idea if you are limited space wise

well if its just the one tort a 3' x 2' would be a more than big enough for a while, but the bigger the better so if you can fit a bigger one in, its better to do so if not, just get the biggest you can.

I think we can only fit a maximum 4 foot in the space so a double one might have to be the best idea. Any idea best place to buy one?

I think there is a member that sells the 2-tier ones. Secret Garden woodcraft I think..
Have a look through some previous housing posts and you should see their name crop up on responses. xx |

Hi,
Thanks Yuna for the plug!! Secret Garden have been making two tier Penthouse table for a few years now and also "bunk bed " style tables but if your tortoises need to get from one level to another under there own steam then the Penthouse would be the way to go.Size is not an issue as they can be made to the size you need. Any questions feel free to post or PM me. Stuart http://secretgardenwoodcraft.com Tortoise tables/garden lodges/hibernation boxes. |

A 48" by 22" Penthouse as in the pics with the standard lamp fixing (bayonet ) would be £132.00 delivered ,you can change the spec adding such things as Exo-terra glow-light (for use with a mercury vapour bulb etc) and or clips for a UVB strip light or a 2nd lamp arm with a ceramic light fitting for use with a "compact" UVB bulb. Hi
Elvis has a strip lamp and a heat bulb at the momnet so would probably need to put them in whatever we choose. Would that size give him enough space when he is fully grown? |
