Tortoise open day fun
I have just spent a pleasant afternoon at the HTS open day and managed to spend lots of money - for good causes of course. I was amazed at how many families were there. Free parking and entry and only 25p to have a go at anything, so good to offer something at a good price.
Met some torts - Phoebe 110; big ones; little ones. Phoebe has a prolapse and they were particularly trying to raise funds for her surgery. Saw quite a few £10 notes in the jar, so hopefully the generosity shown will soon mount up. I won a wind up tort, bought tortoise socks, mugs, seeds, basking lamp and crisps. Yes crisps, these were on special offer and for my husband as a treat before I showed him the Yamaha key board I purchased. He was in a bit of a panic when I came home as seeing the huge box, believed I had brought a few torts home with me, but was relieved it was the keyboard. So that worked well. He still can't get over how I go to a Tort event and buy a keyboard. Someone had obviously donated it and is brand new, so a big bargain. It is great fun as it provides music, so I pretended to play some jazz and classical music. I was really good! As well as learning to play we realised we can press the button and practice our dancing too. It was lovely to support a society that looks after tortoises and I plan to join as it is only £11 a year. Did anyone else go?
