I fell in love with a tort with so many split scutes they looked like a mosaic, half of them are triangles! I was convinced it would be a female because of all i'd heard about high incubation temperatures & it being a sign of females. Gave it a nice female name (all my other torts have turned out to be female - with male names!) & low & behold little "Amy" my definate female, flashed me?
This is a good idea Alan I am very interested in the results, thanks for doing this. |

Looking fairly even at the moment Alan, im surprised at this.
I think mine's is genetic as breeder said he was incubated at 30, one more of his clutch had it & + when I saw his father & brother this summer (they were in hbernation when I had him) they too had lots of split scutes. |

I have:
4 born in 2009 - sex unknown 1 born in 2010 - sex unknown Same mother for all those with extra scutes. Other hatchlings from different mothers are ok and all eggs incubated at the same time in same conditions. I wondered if mine were genetic. Interesting thread ... look forward to the results.
