No 1 looks like Nipplewort to me, edible in moderation. The experts will be along soon hopefully to confirm or tell you what it is.

No 1 isn't Nipplewort - its got long sprawling stems. hard to ID without a flower but it looks similar to Field Bindweed - Convolvulus arvensis which is inedible.

Here is the link http://www.tlady.clara.net/edible/bind.htm But here is another saying feed in moderation....but again it doesnt sound particularly good ie the nasties in it...IMO. http://www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/s...=main&catID=39 Its mad as I was always of the opinion that the bindweed with the white trumpet looking flowers was ok, as part of a varied weed diet - in moderation (as most weeds are) but when you read these 2 sites...you dont know what to think!! |

the problem is that the assumption is usually that if they are not good for humans they are not good for torts but we don't know that is the case really

There was a rumour going round the tortoise world a few years back that Bindweed contained LSD like hallucinogens that could affect tortoises.
I can confirm they don't. I've tried it. I do these experiments so you don't have too. The first one does look like field bindweed, it should get little white/pink trumpet shaped flowers. There is a similar variety that grows on sand dunes which has pink and white striped flowers. No idea on the second one, I'd wait for a bit more growth or a flower. |
