when is it no longer possible to candle eggs?
Does anyone know at what stage of incubation it is no longer possible to see inside the egg? Some of mine are 38 days old and I can't see inside - but don't know if it's me doing something wrong. The first time I incubated, was last year and I didn't even know about candling eggs, they were an unexpected clutch and I had only read up on the technical stuff ie; what temps/humidity environment to keep them in. It's only since becoming more active on here, that I've read about canding, and I have only seen photos of eggs at about a month old.

If you can't shine the light thro any more it probably means its full of little tiny tort, awwww, I saw one of my Hermans wriggle yesterday, they 14 days, it's amazing . Sounds like you've got baby torts in your eggs.

I was just looking at the sticky at the top titled New Life Begins, and thought that may give you an idea, it has some good pics showing start to finish, may be a different species so different time scale but worth a look just the same

Yes there does come a point when shining a torch in from the top or sides won't show you anything. Points in time during incubation depend on species, temperature and size of egg. You will though be able to see in if you pick the egg up and shine the torch in from the bottom.

God only knows how women cope having to wait 9 months to see their babes. I'd end up being banned from the hospital scanning department for being a nuisance, and then I'd have to buy a second-hand scanner - and they'd be MUCH more expensive than a £2.99 Tesco torch.

On the second photo you can see where it's still folded in two. So it looks like 2 of my now not-so-secret kids are being born this evening
