It's an open table right Mike? If it is an open table than all the heat you want to stay in the table is going up to your ceiling and heating that up as opposed to your table. To raise the temps in the table you will have to make a lid for it that you can use for the winter. This will keep the heat in and not make the poor 120w heater try to heat the whole room.

Almost as bad as an open table That is one tall viv With that size viv, you will need to up the wattage on the tubular heater to have it make any difference and not over work the heater.

It does look nice and helps with lighting, but being that high does not help with the heat during the winter.
I'd think more like 18 to 20 inches high would be a bit better. Danny

The only reason i made it that size was so my leopard table could go on top..
(Egyptians had just moved in) Will keep the sizes in mind when I build the 2 new vivs.. Will see what works in the Big viv

for us in the uk that have torts to over winter or torts that do not hibernate ,the closed chamber method advocated by our friends in the usa must be worth consideration.
we cannot continue just throwing more "watts" at the problem that comes back to bite us in the ass every winter. VIVARIUM!!!!! or something similar. |

I would move the CHE above to where they sleep (if they sleep altogether) and maybe a fixture so that it is lower and direct it at the hide. I have my male golden greek, and females goldens in 2ft high vivs, the CHE is over where they sleep, the CHEs are 75watt (and connected to thermostats) my baby goldens are in 18inch high viv.
But a good idea is to make a hide box out of plywood and make the roof high enough to add a small tubular heater (I have a 1ft tubular not using at the moment but will make use of it at some point) x

Thanks bev took some time to build and add thing to but slowly getting there.
The Che is no longer in the viv but like the ideas of building A little house for the tubular heater.. The night temps are not that bad at the mo but like to plan ahead.
