No 1 could be common bistort. Try googleing it and have a look to see if that is what it looked like when you saw it growing. It says the leaves measure about 20 cm and it grows most commonly in the northwest

It could be common bistort (persicaria bistorta) or this one pale persicaria (persicaria lapathifolia) .. they are both similar. neither are one's i've heard of as tort food though

Yes folks...I THINK IT IS BISTORT!!....How on earth do you do it....I try to search and end up screaming after 10 mins as everything looks the same/nothing like it!!
I am in the north west....must go pick more and make a pudding!!
