Default Christmas Tortoises

I just added these cuties to my tortoise family. A early Christmas gift to myself. They are C.B. '08 Leopard tortoises (Geochelone p. babcocki) hatched in November.

These "bargain tortoises" were lower priced ($100 each) because they both have extra scutes (plates). This happens with high incubation temperatures and doesn't harm the tortoises in anyway. However, it does mean these two are most likely females.

These pictures were taken by the people I purchased them from. Robert & Trish.

lovely torts

im not sure the torts should be described as a bargain

sorry but that is how i feel
surely torts should not be questioned regarding selling / aquiring price

torts are torts regardless of extra scutes

What little beauties!

I have a soft spot for torts with extra scutes... my little Herbie has them too. Makes them proper little individuals, I think!

So pretty...

wow those are lovely ,i had a few of mine hatched with split scutes this year and these are the recent clutch which have hatched in less days than the ones from earlier in the year.do you know what temperature and humidity yours were incubated at and also how many days of incubation.sorry for all the questions, but i have some theories and any information can be helpful.congratulations leopards are incredible and a pleasure to keep.

And another thing I noticed... are those yellow areas on their plastrons where they would have been connected to the yolk sack in the egg?

I never knew that tortoises had belly buttons!!!
