Hibernation - Help
I own a 35 year old Med Tortoise who is in great health. I have just checked her she has pooed herself and its all stuck to her. I put her in a box 10 days ago and kept temperature at 6 degrees. I have wound her down for 4 weeks prior to putting her in her box and I thought she had nothing left in her to pass. She is now awake as she wasnt in a deep sleep.
Would you recommend that I warm her up and leave it a further 10 days before I try to hibernate her again or just over winter her????

if your tortoise is a pet and you have no wish to breed from her there is no reason why you must hibernate her.
if breeding you need to hibernate. |

I thought that if they poo whilst alseep that was ok, it's just if they wee it is a health issue and should be woken.
I might be wrong though.

Yes I's sure it's ok to do that. I've often found dried poos in their boxes when they come round in the Spring

Your tortoise will be fine. It can be fright or stress that makes them toilet in the box. No problem if they have to go, they have to go! You are quite right to put her back. See if you can get her temperature down to 5c by standing some frozen bottles of water next to the box. |
