I take the males out at six weeks old I'm not sure you would call it weaning them as I was watching them this morning and they are eating hay and bits of grass already so I'm thinking the little blighters come out part weaned to start with.

Bless them. My eldest did a C-section on a guinea pig a while ago and the babies came out running about and squeaking. He said it's the most bizarre section he's assisted on as usually kittens, pups, etc. are so helpless but the piggies were soon rampaging about.

Yep, the males are soon sexually mature and ready to make new babies quite early aren't they?

Emma, I wish I could lower fizz's pen as she is now 6. does yours run onto the grass as I worry she would get damp. Pickies too requested ! CB
Sorry CB - busy weekend, but here are pics of Popcorn in her lowered hutch. She's managing perfectly in and out now. No lift required.

And off she waddles for a mooch, a munch, a nose at what's going on with the chickens opposite her and then back indoors again. Funny little piggy.

I think as long as they have lots to do and look at , especially chickens they are happy little things aren't they. churdling along without a care in the world. Fizz's big day is her eat and then snooze. all four legs out like a dog. CB

The first year we had the chickens was hilarious as the piggies and the chooks eyed each other up. The piggies would look hesitantly, then Jemima (who was our foghorn) would let out a siren to the other hens and the piggies would scamper back into their hutch and peer around the corner to try and see if the chickens would disappear or not. Eventually they worked out neither could reach each other and learned to live opposite quite happily.

A dastardly plan for you to get your hands on Ragnar, CB?
What do you think of Travis when he's not in character as Ragnar?
