Not this year, it conflicts with the BCG Symposium in Milton Keynes.

Me neither. Wouldn't mind having a look one year though, to see what it's all about. Are there usually many torts there?

It attracts between 10-15000 Herp people from all over the world. In truth, this can be a manic experience, as it is always so very crowded. That said the range of species generally available is staggering! Last September the Hamm show which is held on a Saturday, was followed by another indepedently organised show in Rheda Wiedenbruck on the following day. This proved to be a much less frenetic experience and actually, had more Chelonia species and seperate private breeders whom one could more easily talk to. The overnight accommodation in Rheda was also much nicer. Other European shows worth visiting are Houten which also is held twice a year. This again is less crowded and has equally good numbers of species and breeders exhibiting. Aside live animals all these shows are great places to meet European hobbyists, get Books and possibly best of all see the sort of Technology and facilities used in husbandry. They generally make the UK experience seem: very old fashion. Last year, I also got into a Poison Dart frog set up at home and bought a group of very nice Dendrobates tinctorius from a well known UK breeder. I wanted to create before getting them a very naturalistic set up. To achieve this, I needed suitable tropical plants that are very difficult to get here in the UK. At these European shows however, specialist suppliers are in good number. |

Yeah, I've googled the videos and it doesn't look as busy as I've been told it is but each video is only about a minute long and you don't really get a sense of what it will be like.
