It is difficult if you only have one tort Nina I have to admit that. If you were to have several torts adding up to 1kg weight it would be easier. If you imagine that amount of nutrobal on that amount of food then it gives an idea of what the right amount of food to say, one leaf would look like. It is still a light sprinkling to whatever the tort eats. I know it is difficult to say how much exactly but Andy also states that it is not likely that you wuold overdose on nutrobal, so I do bear that in mind when using it. I have yet to hear of a tort with nutrobal overdose, but obviously could be wrong.

i have a 4/5 year old leopard tortoise and admit that most of the time i have had him he has been on a crap diet and only havin nutrobal once a week. (following the advice of the petshop where i got him) his scutes are quite pyramided and was wondering if that was from the diet or lack of nutrobal, or both.
if i correct everything will he ever round off a bit?

I'm afraid some manufacturers are only in it for the money and therefore most people do know better - for instance we all know not to feed pelleted food to tortoises but it is still manufactured and recommended.

However I fully agree that scientific research should be taken into account. Thanks for that post Darren, very clear. I understand this to mean that the tortoise passes all excess calcium supplements through its system harmlessly and so you can't overdose them.

My girls love their cuttlefish bone and have that available all the time (they have one bone broken into three pieces around their table), they're fed fresh weeds which have Nutrobal on them four times a week and are outside to graze and bask two days a week at the moment. They're getting a luxury outdoor house when we move.
