Yes Joanna I had a wonky one last year that couldn't open its mouth and I did have to take the sad decision to have it put to sleep although it was able to scuttle around on 3 legs!4th was curled over shell at back.I also have a blind one but she's doing well now.I'm sorry you've got such a worry but a vet will help you decide what's best.

Hi Shellonia, the wonky one I have here can open its mouth so apart from having an odd shape to its shell and a slight twist I'm hoping that one will be fine.
The one that doesn't open its mouth was at the vets today, and she actually managed to open its mouth, it looks fine. After it was opened it kind of did a couple of jaw movements so I took it home and tried feeding. It will now open it a tiny bit but not enough to eat, so I called the vets and it is going back tomorrow to have a feeding tube fitted. At the size it is she said it is pointless to xray but thinks possibly a joint problem. I'm just happy that it will get some food in tomorrow as it's quite distressing watching it try to eat. |

Joanna, what % relative humidity are you maintaining in the incubator? The reason I ask is,if there isn't enough humidity, the membrane will pull across the inside of the egg and crush the baby against the shell.Unfortunatly,I know this from experience. After losing all except one in a clutch of seven,I dissected the eggs and that is exactly what I found. The one that did hatch came out caved in on one side just like yours. After about two weeks of misting him multiple times a day and providing a very humid hide,it is almost back to perfect.
