Someone brought this tortoise into where I work as a male Hermans but I think its a female and the tortoise has spurs so am right in its maybe an Ibera ?
Also can you tell roughly how old it is as has a hole drilled into shell so assuming pretty old. Thanks in advance x I forgot to add SCL is 24cm and weight 3500g if that makes a difference Last edited by egyptiandan64; 25-09-2011 at 07:54 PM. |

Wow - what a magnificent tortoise. I'd agree that it's a female but can't help on the other questions I'm afraid. I'm sure someone else will be along to help though

I agree with Chris It's a female Algerian Spur-thigh, Testudo graeca graeca. She is probably 60 or 70 years old.
If you look closely at the femoral/abdominal scute seam, the end does have a very steep angle. Danny

Thanks for everyones help, Is she big for her subspecies then as she seems huge ?
I will pass on this info to the vets I work at and see where the owners are at, so wish I could keep her but keep Hermans myself. |
