Rambo + Harold (Red Foots)
Hello all,
Sorry for not being very active on the forums since I joined almost a year ago! Originally I shared some pictures of just one tortoise but shortly after falling in love with him/her my partner and I got a second from the same hatch/litter. Thought I'd share some pictures I took over the recent months. We think they are still too young to sex as we they are about a year and half old now and we've had them a year in August. Any indication of what sub-species they are would be great though!? I think they are 'normal' red-foots and not Cherries personally. All the best, Robbie. |

Rambo and Harold are just gorgeous! I'm no expert on Redfoots but I'm sure someone will come along to suggest sub-species. All I know is the plastrons of cherryheads are usually darker. Gorgeous shells on the pair of them.

Haven't got any expertise on this, but just loved the photographs. Very attractive.

High Robbie. Can you post clearer pictures of their heads please. They look like northern reds, but do have darker plastrons than normal, which suggests southern Brazilians or maybe a mix. Brazilians(aka cherryheads) have very dark plastrons. Southern Brazilians heading down towards Paraguay and Bolivia seem to start out with darkish plastrons then can develop a full black plastron. These southerns are the giants of redfoots world though. 18+" SCL. Northerns average 12" reaching to 16". Cherryheads reach 12/13".

Hi Craig/all,
Apologies for the delay with the photographs - I just came back from holiday. Based on what you have said I'm guessing they are northern Reds? Certainly not Cherries from where I'm sitting?! Here are some clearer pictures of the top of their heads and thanks in advance: |
