I've heard of them but thought they were elsewhere in Europe. No idea there was a 'production line' of this nature in the uk.
I wouldn't bite my lip. It's a farm. Poor females probably getting no peace to keep the pet trade well supplied. Quite horrid!

don't you think its weird that the garden centre I visited in Essex 20 odd years ago (got family there) had them stacked up like potatoes.

This is dealing and I can not see how good strong stock can evolve from animals subjected to what is tantamount to a battery farm for Tortoises. Where do they all go when the families get fed up with them or cost too much to heal.

Savage,

That looks very commercial, a production line, a money making machine. Not the way any animals should be bred or sold. Don't bite your lip Gordon, people need to know where not to buy a tortoise from , if they are new to this.

Im sure you have noticed my lack of posts on here over the last year and a lot of it is down to voicing my opinions on things which quite often upset people even though it's not meant to.
Everybody should be allowed to say what they think but unfortunately you get a lot of people who just don't want to listen and then all hell breaks loose and toys get thrown out of prams which achieves nothing which is not what the forum is about we are here to point people in the right direction and with luck animals have a better life which is what it's all about.
I am lucky to have a lot of different types of tortoises and other animals which I spend hundreds of hours watching and trying to learn from.
I also breed some years a lot of babies of which I like other breeders I sell but also give quite a few away as sometimes it's not all about the money but even with all that said I have been called a dealer in the past.

Just shows they don't know you then, G.
People can be single-minded and we all know there have been members on here who have specifically started threads only to goad people into controversial debates and then lash out at them.
You're not a dealer and certainly not a bully. There's enough of us here who know you personally so if people want to throw their toys out the pram, let them. Speak your truth and your beliefs on here. It may not achieve anything and people miss your point entirely but it's always better to be honest with your opinions than keep quiet.
Don't sit on the fence or you'll get splinters in your backside.
But mainly, I think there are a lot of us who know you're not only experienced with breeding and husbandry, but have a passion for it that far outweighs financial gain. So we appreciate your opinions and advice.

Thank you for the kind words emma.

Going back to the breeder/dealer their set up looks good and I would give my right arm to have something half as good and I'm sure I'm not alone in that. But the amount of eggs they are bragging about they must have an awful lot of tortoises which must cost a fortune to feed and look after properly.
