Yes very hot here yesterday, and torts doing their Mediterranean tortoise thing. I love watching them just doing their thing in this sort of weather, but they are eating a lot!

I know I've said it before ( sorry to be boring and state the obviouse ) but, it's great to see the torts behaving naturally, cos we are having Mediterranean weather, they are up early , eating and mooching and gone back to bed by about 10.30 , sleep for the rest of the day in the shade, then up late afternoon for another mooch and eat, and they are eating a lot ! Not often we see this natural behaviour , but I would say they are loving it.

We've only had two days of heat, three if counting today but big black clouds appearing now. It was only 14c on Friday. Sunrise this morning was 4.24am and I was up at 5.30 and the torts were going about their business at that time and it was already 25c in the greenhouse, the sun hits it right from sunrise. I had to put them out by 6am

wow what a difference down here Alan - it was still 36 degrees at 22.00hrs last night in the conservatory. and 28.5 in the lounge. It is so baking hot. I haven't ever remembered covering up cloches with shade covers - got towels over benches to create even more shade and foot stools for them to hide under. there is lots of shade an hidey holes already but they are all sooooo hot too! I love it !! as suze says watching them this must be their ideal ? though it does little for appearance .for humans ..makeup is melted and hair frizzie. I look like one of those crazy sea creatures lurking at the bottom of the ocean sparked into life. CB

It's been nowhere near as tropical up north but of course tortoises don't need huge amounts of heat. If it's sunny and 20C or so they are in their element and it's been great this last few days watching them.
Also we get so many hours of light at this point in the year. It's not even dark at 10pm here, and with it being warm the bigger tortoises are still awake, just lazing about looking very comfortable!
