This should be fixed now, let me know if you still get the issue though.

Not well by the looks of it, if a forum can go down for a while, it's not got the right support behind it IMO.

You'll be pleased to know the forum has now though, I'm fairly experienced when it comes to this sort of stuff. I run forums for a living so it's paramount mine are all up as I don't earn a penny when they're down. And I earn less when they have issues that annoy the members as they tend not to post much when the forum is doing silly things on them like logging them out or whatever.

Had to learn as I've gone on, and I've had all the common problems forums get and then some.

Mind you, not everything will be fixed in 6 minutes so don't hold me to it lol

Can owt be done to stop the spam, not seen any today but on the old site there was about 300 new threads started every day. I still see spammers in the active users lists though

Yes.

Firstly we need to get rid of all the existing spam accounts that have registered and are still in the database. I looked earlier and about 12 or so were logged in. Andrew did clear out hundreds but had to be selective with recent member accounts as some might be genuine. They're easy to spot in the database so I should be able to disable most of those accounts.

Then to prevent them from registering we can use a couple of human verification options. So you already have Questions and Answers setup, and we need to add Captcha also. That'll cut down on 99% of spammers registering as they'll just find easier forums to sign up to than here so eventually you'll not end up with the forum in lists they all use and share.

There's also some cool anti-spam modications we can install that automatically spot spammers and deal with them. And they also check the stopforumspam.com database upon registration and block most of them before they even get spotted by the system.

I just need to install those things.

It's first day back in work though and I have about 17 active forums and literally thousands of emails to check (most of those will be spam too haha - imagine the time I'd free up if spam didn't exist?!?!).

I'll get on this though later in the week.

If you can, when you see users logged in with spam accounts, use the modCP to ban their accounts before they post anything. Do you have access to that?
