Many new herpers are getting into the practice of not sharing information on location data for whatever reason. Asking on open forums can't hurt but usually results in either getting ignored or flamed.
It looks like you are going to be pretty far east. Try dropping A. Highfield of the Tortoise Trust a note. Although he lives a pretty good distance west of there he just might be willing to help you (I had trouble typing that). The best means of finding locations I've found is asking the local farmers or population in general that live in the outskirts of town. There is no better ice breaker than explaining that you are a tortoise nut or herper who would like to see a particular animal in the wild. They might not know the specific names of the animals but with a good description I have found they are always more than willing to describe their encounters with the strange creatures you are looking for. I've found some pretty rare reptiles using this method. Also inquire at the local nature museums, zoos or hiking clubs. These are going to be your best sources of information with the locals being the most helpful. It would, of course, be very beneficial... if you spoke the language.

Thanks EJ
I found many herps in Australia just by asking people but when I don't speak the language it slipped my mind! |

You've never seen the Iphone comercial... If you have net access you have along a translator.
I do hope you post pictures when you get back. My herping experience in Spain is in the Canarys... although I do have an invite to do some hunting in western Spain... though I'm affraid I'd go missing.
