Help in setting up a pond

Can anyone advise me on a filter and pump set up for a 200litre pond.
I have no idea where to start when it comes to ponds

Is it for turtles?

If so, then it may well be easier to make your own filter. We have for various outdoor ponds. You need a pond pump, a large strong box (in one case we have used an old clean black dustbin) and tubing. We filled the boxes with Alfagrog and then planted them up.

The ponds must be 100% safe as turtles can and do climb.

Our ponds vary between a preformed one half sunk in the lawn with 3' bamboo canes hammered in around the edge to stop escapees; a freestanding one on the patio for youngsters so is not too full; a home built one and a large Laguna. We also have a wooden frame one for indoors during the winter.

Ours (mostly Sliders, Cooters and similar) live outside from approximately May - October. Although if healthy etc they can be overwintered, but that needs researching.

It's for Emys orbicularis and it will be in a greenhouse in a raised set up with land area.
Im unsure on how best to make a homemade filter. A they good enough for a clear pond? Also what pump would you recommend

Just remember when it comes to filtering a pond for turtles, that whatever filter size is recommended for the size pond with fish in it, you'll have to go double that for a pond the same size with turtles in it.

The good thing with making your own is that they can be built really big. The volume of media in the filter is all important. As much surface space as possible, which is why alfagrog is recommended.

I've built a couple this year, its quite easy to do. If you don't want to do this Hozelock do some reasonable pond filtration kits in B&Q.
