Seventeen year Cicadas.
A good friend of mine who lives in New Jersey sends me regular updates on the natural history of his beloved countryside in the USA.
The attached link shows one of the marvels of nature that occur in the State every seventeen years: http://now.msn.com/samuel-orr-film-a...natures-beauty |

My friend Joe, told me the story about his neighbour who had just had his house painted and decided to take his family off on a short holiday whilst the paint dried. He had not expected the Cicada emergence to coincide. When they returned a few days later, the house was literally covered with a veneer of Cicadas whose bodies had stuck to the wet paint.
As a consequence, his property has been left with an interesting texture! Joe, himself loves the wildlife of New Jersey and regularly provides me with his letters from America. In a recent text, he talks of his dog walking in the local woods where gems such as this are found quite regularly: |
