Default silly light/ timer question

this is prob a really stupid question but do the light holders with switch on cable work with timers? I've never used one before so set it all last night got up this morning and light wasn't on. ok so i stupidly forgot to switch lamp on with switch on cable then tonight it doesn't go off is it because the switch on the cable or is it just me? I've checked it a few times and all seems in order....it's one of the digital ones.
Thanks in advance from the thicko lol x

ETA got a exo terra glow x

You dont want to bother messing with the manual switch thing on the cable. Just leave this to ON. Just set the timers, Cara and that should do everything for you. See if others agree...or I could have missed the point totally!! LD
Just as a precaution, if you have your lights plugged into an extension plug socket or tower - and this is then plugged into your main socket on the wall, I would consider using an anti surge protector plug...INTO your main wall socket. Does that make sense?
I have one on mine. For health and safety purposes in case of any surges and I am not there.
Some people may not do this, its just what I do. Just something you might want to consider.. xx
But I dont think that switch is needed really, just the timer settings.
Have I got the gist of your question....or have I not "got it"...........??
((Congrats by the way on getting Roxy!! Excellent!)

that's the problem the light was on and plugged in to the timer (that was set to go off at ten) and at 5 past ten the light was still on so had to turn it off myself =/ thanks I'm soooo happy
ETA yeah you said about the surge protectors before going to pick one up tomorrow as my light is plugged in to extension or I might just get an extension with one built in =D x

Default mini timers

i am a new torty owner and I have just set my lamps on a mini timer (£2 @ B&Q) I just leave the cable switches on and the timers do the rest and the system is working great.

if the timer was coming on when it should be going off and going off when it should be coming on I just thought that setting it while looking in the mirror might have reversed the settings and solved the problem

it wasn't coming on or off on the timer that was the problem , I might be a bit slow but I can read ON and OFF Alan it seems the timer just wasn't working as I'm using my spare and thats working fine.

Just noticed I've put this thread in where to buy, oh dear think I was lacking sleep x
