Default When Tortoise attack

My OH is looking after our babies while we are basking on the beach. From this photo I can figure out that she carving some protein (attempting to ), could it be the case?

I often hand feed my girls, only one of them seems to see my fingers as food now and will chase my finger and tries to nip me... She's only tiny, but considering how easily she chomps through quite tough leaves makes me wonder if it might hurt.
