Lots more members - Watt Watt
As an aside 've noticed there are a lot more guests and member using the site considering its going into hibernation or maybe because of that. some days are well over 100 which is good to see.
I have calculated kilojules and watts and have found on 7 x 80w (some 100w) bulbs it is costing around £30 a month to run between 7 to 8 hours a day. would that be about right does anyone think ? I guess prices have gone up as it wasn't that amount way back when but not sure ive calculated it right. welcome thoughts. CB

Not sure either. The solar panels we had were taking care of running costs but now we have a dedicated tortoise room, the ambient room temp is higher - meaning less time for the bulbs to be on and no night heat required in the winter either. So our running costs are still reduced to what perhaps they ought to be. I'll ask hubby to get his thinking cap on and see what he thinks. All a bit too mathematical for my poor old brain!

I probably haven't a clue either Mary ! I wonder if you can work it out better Emma? ....reason was there was a debate by someone saying they wouldn't have a tortoise because it cost too much to have the bulbs on over winter etc, and I wanted to give them an approximate for an informed debate. I thought it was pennies a day and it should be as in if 7 bulbs cost me £30 a month and you divide that into days....0.96p a day and then divide 0.96p by 7 bulbs that works out as 13p a day to have one bulb on your tortoise ! Bonus ! Quids in I say and good value ! CB

Interestingly our electric bill is £100 more this year than last. My husband said probably the tort heating and I said nonsense! I have used the ceramic bulb for quite a bit of the summer when I think about it. Occasionally the MV bulb too. Plus overhead lighting.
We need an electrician!
