I've often wondered this too... I give my tortoises nutrobal every other day on average and calcium inbetween. So I don't actually need a uvb bulb? If not then that'll save me a few quid in the future. I have already (since end of Feb this year) been through 2 Solar glos and am now using an arcadia 160.

Unless your tort has no access to the outdoors in the summer a uv lamp would be better than nothing. Most people do have outdoor enclosures and I don't think a bulb could ever be as beneficial as what natural sunlight is. I'm tempted to just use normal halogens indoors in the future as my torts do get out whenever possible.

Oh ETA tortoises are designed to produce D3 through their skin like us humans. Therefore it's probably more effective to have the tortoise take up it's D3 through natural sunlight rather than internally. Especially when things your tortoise could eat could interfere with the process.

could it be possible that i can save £125 on a solarmeter 6.2 £120 on 3 new arcadia's which now need replacing (currently mega ray)
there are some cheaper options out there to provide more heat and light as is necessary in the next couple of months.
YOUR VIEWS PLEASE
