Jimmy Saville?
What are the opinions of the allegations of sexual abuse?

its a bit late now to come out with alegations, he was a heroe in many eyes and is now dead so can't defend himself, better left alone unless the accusers are after money from his family. That wouldn't surprise me as everyone now seems intent on taking money from where ever they can! right or wrong it should have been dealt with at the time.

I wasn't surprised and not shocked either. It was a very different world in the 70s, girls would have given anything to "sleep" with a celebrity and they still would. But it wasn't such a scandal then. People were very naive about these things. I bet at the time these women didn't see any wrong in it, but now looking back, and with all the media attention on pedophiles they probably feel what happened was wrong. Also the law was very different then too. Anyone reporting these things were not taken as seriously as they are now. If it's true, and I think it probably is, there is a world of difference to being forcibly abused with all the injuries and trauma that goes with it, to being a teenager who is flattered that a celebrity is taking an interest in them and having sex with them. I'm not saying either is right. Taking advantage of a young person is always wrong.

I couldn't agree more with your opinion there Wendy. I know someone who was abused back in the early 80's by a man (not famous) but who made her feel good and she willingly allowed him to have sex with her. She was 13 and he was in his 40's. It all came to light a couple of years ago when another girl mentioned it during her training as a police PCSO. The police followed it up and the man was sent to prison for quite a few years. He's now in his late 70's. The whole situation ripped apart the woman's family. They were so upset this had happened and she'd said nothing all those years, but they were particularly upset that she'd allowed it to happen. She hadn't been forced into sex violently, but she was groomed with money. Her parents saw that as her practically prostituting herself and as she didn't want for anything at home, they couldn't understand why she did it. Even years later, in her twenties and married with children, she decided to go and visit the man to say hello. It appears she almost had a fixation with him and perhaps until the police contacted her, regarding the allegations made by the second girl training to be PCSO, she didn't feel it had been wrong. It was only at that point she felt tainted. So although any sexual grooming is wrong, I do agree this is different to violent and forced sexual abuse. I used to like watching Jimmy on TV as a child, but in all honesty, despite his charitable work, there was something a little odd about him. Perhaps it was because people didn't know much about the real him, I'm not sure, but this news isn't a shock.

I'd say innocent until proven guilty, it's a shame he's not alive to defend himself, why now?
It's also a shame that if it is proven to be wrong, it won't get the media coverage like the revelations and his reputation will be forever tarnished.

When i was younger watching tv and he come on he sort of freaked me out a little,i could never quite understand why i felt like this, recently talking to nickki about it she says she always felt the same. The rumours have been going on for years about him, some really disgusting things that he was supposed to be part of so i dont think the ones coming forward now are after money, just that he cant hurt them anymore and want the truth to be out,sad whatever happens.

I wasn't at all surprised to hear this.
He always gave me the creeps, there was certainly something odd about him. My own opinion of a person is neither here nor there but I wouldn't have wanted to be in his company. However, I know he did a lot of work for charity and that's to his credit. It must be distressing for his family. Not their fault but no doubt they will take the brunt of the media attention.
