Bindi's the man to ask about the stability of soil temperatures in greenhouses. I know she took winter temperatures and they hardly budged 6 inches down. You could have had a long incubation at about 24C. She may have some summer readings, she's always probing. Its a possibility but its quite rare even on the continent.

You're not just training your hatchlings to return home from their new owners are you?

LOL, the thing i don't get is its -17c here in the winter for months. I guess if a clutch of eggs where laid close to a megar ray lamp that would keep the ground warm last spring but where its been since last year who know's , nice shell all the same

I read of Hermanns hatching au natural in switzerland in the mega summer of 2003. Fit as a fiddle and very dark colouration. The parents wern't identified but perhaps the colouration was a result of parents from cooler climates where darker colouration allows better heat absorbsion and perhaps lower sucessful incubation temperatures are normal.

You're looking at 88 days + for Hermanns incubated at a constant 24C. Throw in an overnight temperature drop and its probably edging 100 days +.

I would think it definately hatched in the greenhouse and actually it was probably an early clutch last year. In the wild in Bulgaria they take 90 to 120 days to hatch. I would think it would have taken the same amount of time in the greenhouse, unless it was under a lamp, than slightly less.
When hatchlings hatch they go straight for cover, so very easy to over look one that was hatched basicly outside. It probably over wintered in the greenhouse and made it outside this spring. So probably didn't do much growing till after this spring.

Nice find Chris and yes there is probably more.

Danny
