Right, little more work on it today, the local maidenhead aquatics have run out of pond liner annoyingly, so that will have to wait.
But I've started on the groundwork in the pen itself, with some fresh weed matting in the new extended bit, half the existing 'walls' down and started to level ready for some more slabs to support the new house.

They're already out and about exploring what's going on!

Thanks, it's getting there!!
the next issue I have is how to move the house into position, it weighs a ton (well about 150kg), so will need at least 3 of us to shift it
So it'll have to wait until the weekend I think until I can round up the people

Very busy day today, blisters on my hands, cuts on my shin and a little finger that's twice the size it should be

Nevertheless, after much deliberating about the location of their new water feature.... I dug myself a hole

Then proceeded to start tearing up all of the 'natural' weeds... I know I know, I could have saved them, but I'll at least start with landscaping, then let the 'good' weeds grow over the next year or so.

I did however open up the "cave" as we called it, and found a half-built small field mouse nest, oh well, he won't find that again tonight!

Then I needed to fit the new log roll against the back edge of the fence.
Also hooked up the pump & electrics, and the catch tray for the waterfall...

and then placed the waterfall in it's place, it's clear I'm going to need more rocks to build up the sides of it though!!

Ok, looking back it doesn't seem I've done that much! lol but the digging was a major pain in the back - literally!.

Still, all starting to come together now

I can see the tortoise climbing up the waterfall at some point in time

Yep, it's shaped just like tortoise steps

We actually bought one specifically so they could go in it.
Once they get to the top, the header pool has sides that 'should' be too tall for the little escape artists.
We're going to build a big rockery up the sides so they can't climb up that route, and have plants right at the top which we can have suitably thick and woody to stop them pushing through.
So the only way is down

Sorry, whats confusing?!
They can climb it if they want to, it's not steep, it's like shallow steps.
If they fall onto their backs, the worst that will happen is the poor little things will sit on their back until I'm/my wife is home.
There is no standing water in the feature.

I appreciate the concern, but I have thought about these things! lol

Ah yes, you've joined the club - you can spot a club member a mile away: our arms and legs look like we've been self-harming, we've sand-papered off most of our fingerprints, we walk with a stoop because our backs can't stand the strain of the digging, our knees are red from kneeling on grit, and you can forget about garden centre plants in our tubs and pots, we grow weeds in ours.

Welcome
