Default Hedgehog house is getting full!

I don't usually lift the roof off, but I was recovering one of them for his tick removal (he had 18 ticks on him, poor little sod)...

They said expect to wait for upto a year before they'll use your house.
We put these out in August-ish and it was only about a week before we had residents.
They didn't hibernate in there, and they've only come back in the last month, but at least they have

I love hedgehogs, my childhood hobby was hedgehog collecting (not real ones! lol), I've got thousands of hedgehog bits and bobs in the loft!

The first we found out is when I let the dog out one night and he ran off barking, as I went out to see him he was stood there over a hedgehog.
We started by making a 'make-shift' shelter out of a cardboard box, and bought some proper hedgehog food, this got them closer almost instantly.

So we invested in a couple of houses, and I made a couple of small tunnels to stop the cats and foxes (we've had both stick their noses in when the hedgehogs have also been in there )
I think we're pretty much there now, and they come every single night (costing me a small fortune in hedgehog food!

Nice. I've got one of those houses I used as the torts outdoor home last year in Tortoise World™ got something different this year and wondered what to do with it. Maybe I should put it out for the hedgehogs.

That's brilliant, your doing a very good thing, hedgehogs are in decline and need as much help as they can get.

Hello RS, I overwinter baby hedgehogs born too late in the year and too lightweight to hibernate. They go into our heated greenhouse with heat mats/ceramic heaters, they've already been given Panacur, Baytril if necessary and de-flea treatment, though their fleas are species specific and had their ticks removed. If you want a change from hedgehog food, whiskas chicken in jelly is a favourite (not gravy), and though expensive, they go mental for dried mealworms - you can hear them chomping away, and I can get through bucket-loads, so buy in bulk online. The hedgehog lady showed me how to uncurl them safely, and their little bellies are so cute. I love their grunting noises too. Even though they have a house each like the one in your photo, they all snuggle up into one house, even the males together, they drag all the hay and newspaper from one house and cram it into the other. All we get for Christmas nowadays are dog treats, nesting boxes for the wild birds, and hedgehog houses

Karen, is there anything you don't do, I'm feeling slightly jealous I mean , there's your lovely tort enclosures, chickens now hedgehogs, and living in the middle of no where.
