Was clear, although he said the bone density wasn't as great as he'd have liked.
Hence the suggestion to double the zolcal dose and move the UV closer.

I try so hard to make sure they've got everything right... gutted

Bones look really good to me. So the problem is most likely an infection which you really can't prevent or totally plan for. Hopefully the antibiotics do the trick. Try to keep him warmer than usual (especially at night) when your giving the antibiotics. That and plenty of water.

Thanks Guys,
and thanks Danny for your advice. Will keep you all updated on how we get on... I just have to hope he'll eat more, but it's been a long stressful day for him.
I've asked Sam to get him in in the morning and feed him separately to make sure he is eating something.
He did poo on the vets table and squirt urates on his hand - so I think he's still got his wits about him

Hi there, I lost a THB a few years ago after hibernation she had the same red blotches as well.
6 months ago I purchased a female THB and she had a very small shell rot patch with red blotches on her plastron vet gave me anti biotics which I gave her for 10 days along with treating the shell rot (dry). After a few weeks the red blotches went away.
Hopefully your one will get well soon.
Andy

Was there any check done for parasites... protozoa in particular? How long have you had the tortoise? How is its weight and hydration?

What was it eating and what kind of substrate are you using?

Nice clear xray.

Hi Guys,
Sorry for the slow updates, very bad timing, but I had to travel on business all week
Left the torts in the very capable hands of my wife.

They both went in on Wednesday, Fiorano for then next injection, and Valentino as a precaution... the vet said we'd start a course of antibiotics for Valentino too, although she is not showing any signs, it's cheaper than a blood test and wouldn't do any harm (!).

Anyway, Fiorano is eating pretty well now, although doesn't like having a syringe pushed down his throat, so we're coating some pellets in the anti-inflammatory and he eats them fine.

Have bathed them both today, and Fiorano is noticeably more active (although the red is still quite clear).
Next antibiotic injections for both is tomorrow, and I have to do this one myself just need to get some iodine tomorrow morning first.

Ed, would that be a check in their poo? if so, then no. the local vet (I believe) didn't ask.
Their weights were fine (or rather "good"), 340g for Fiorano and 250 for Valentino.
Didn't have any comments on hydration specifically one way or the other... how could I check?

Food are a mixture of weeds and florette salad topped with Neutrobal and a few pellets at the bottom of the pile - although it's been easier to get him to eat the metacam by lacing it onto the pellets.

Substrate is readigrass in 75% of the house, 10% black limestone (to absorb some heat), and 15% slate chippings.

ETA, oh, and Fiorano was 2 in December, and Valentino is 2 in Feb.

Perhaps share the name/address of this exotic specialist incase anyone else needs to contact one "out of hours?"
It was "VetsNow", but more specifically "Vets now referrals", and they were based in Swindon...
I'll need to dig out the phone number and address.

Easier said than done.

Local chemist closed
Local boots don't stock
Local vets closed
Chemist further away don't stock
Chemist (part of the Lloyds chain) further away still, had some! yay!... £1.15 for a bottle off the shelf.

However...
Was queuing up to pay, the assistant looked at it and read the packet and said, we don't sell much of this any more, what's it for? - I assumed she was making conversation, so I said, my pets need antibiotics and I need to sterilise the skin.
Well, I knew as soon as I said that, she said, ok, erm... and walked into the back, then came back and said, I can't sell this to you.
It only says it's safe for Adults and Children, not animals.

I said, it says it's safe for Adults AND children, ie it's safe for both, it does not say it is not safe for animals.
Plus it's off the shelf, and I'll take the risk.

Nope, not having it.
So I've come away empty handed, which means I'm now left with a risk (albeit small), of infection when injecting the anti-biotics today
To say I'm mad is a bit of an understatement, furious I think is more like it.
I was tempted to send my wife in and just say it's for a small graze she has (or similar), but it's a bit of a trek to get there.
Not happy
