I too used to have the covers hinged to the enclosure, which I was very happy with at the time, it used to raise up and hook perfectly between 2 fence posts.

Although now I've made their enclosure bigger, and more pertinently it's now an irregular shape, I've had to do something different.
So it's now in 2 halves, one in a semi-permanent frame, and one which is flexible and just hooks over.
Both, instead of using wire mesh, now use fruit netting.
