It was 'Only a winter's tale, just another winter's tale' - great song by the Essex!
I saw the Pogues several times in the late 80s/early 90s. I saw a gig by them one Christmas at Manchester Apollo and Shane McGowan stumbled on stage and slurred his way shambolically through 2 numbers before his bandmates bundled him offstage. Luckily Joe Strummer was in the audience and he stepped up and sang all the Pogues songs with the band - and they did a couple of Clash songs in the encore. Great night
