Gavin & Stacey star's missing tortoise saved from crusher
Comedy star Ruth Jones yesterday told of her joy after her beloved tortoise was saved from death in a glass crusher.
A worker spotted 55-year-old Tom on the conveyer belt at a recycling centre.
Ruth - Nessa in the BBC's Gavin & Stacey - had alerted the council when her pet vanished five weeks earlier.
She hurried to the plant near her Cardiff home after getting a call. Relieved Ruth, 44, said: "I've had him since I was young so I knew him straight away.
"He must have crawled into a recycling bag in our garden and then found himself in a refuse lorry.
"We searched high and low for him and put up posters asking neighbours to keep a look out.
"We're just relieved to have him back - especially as he would have been mincemeat."
Ruth shot to stardom as Stacey's pal in the comedy based near the resort of Barry. Next month she is back on the BBC in classic Tess of the D'Urbervilles.
