Worms

I just caught Boris eating a worm!

I was just checking the boys movements having weighed and measured this morning ready for the fridge in a few weeks time, saw him sniffing around at something in the ground, and the next thing I know he's pulling a worm out and munching it down in a few chomps!

Is this normal?!

How am I supposed to slow the food intake down so they're empty in time to hibernate with behaviour like this?!

How am I supposed to keep an eye on his protein intake if he's decided he wants to be a carnivore?!

Is it just because he's hungry?

Cheers :?:

Eating worms is rather normal, a lot of torts eat worms and bugs if they catch them, as for the other questions I have no idea sorry

You might want to post the hibernation concern in the med tort section on a separate thread as its quite important - and just ask about how to do the "slow down". Just a thought.
xx:)

My lot have eaten a worm or two!

It shouldn't do any harm, I know they carry something that can be fatal to chickens if not treated (I think it's called Gapeworm)

Re slowing food intake, either stop letting him outside so he can't eat anything he finds or move his run onto some concrete :-)

One of my torts ate a slug this summer
