Daylight strip lights

Who uses daylight strip lights, the kind that is used in fish tanks that don't give off any UV as an alternative to ones that do?

I only need to lighten up the sheds but don't need uv as they spend time outside, plus its a cheaper alternative....half the price in fact.

i purchased one today, put it in and the light is not as white, it gives off a a more orangey kind of brightness......is this ok for the torts and does anyone know if it would be a marine bright white strip which would be better? X

if your only after light and not uv a normal white flourecent would do and a lot cheaper than fish tank strip light.

Thankyou mark, but can I use the arcadia starter with an ordinary flourescent strip light? And will the pins at each end fit the holes on the connections to the uv starter? If you know what I mean lol

I have see these for around £5 - £6 well cheap :) x

its down to watts your uv starter unit will have a sticker on the back with a watts rating as long as you dont exceed that it will run the tube.

BUT there are two types of tube a thick one and a thin best bet would be to take the uv unit with you and just check but im sure both will fit as most modern uv units come with an adaptor ring to hold the thinner bulbs still in the thicker fitting

I use the led version of the T8 I think the 3 foot one runs at 20 watts and they throw out a lot of light, takes a couple of mind to convert a fluorescent holder over to led.

Cacti love them

Thankyou, I know the strips I use are T8 and I have been looking on line, as long as the pins fit the starter unit and works happy days :) x

I use the Exo Terra Repti Glo 2.0. It's a full spectrum low-dose UV strip light. Lily gets up on even the dullest of days when that's on. It's mainly for background light quality as I've got an Arcadia combined for his main heat/UVB bulb.
I change it usually every 6-8 months. Works perfect for Lils. xx:)
