beak / face crack ..
 

Hello .

Has anyone ever had the sides of the beack almost cheek area crack. Geoff had slight lifted cracks . Dry not sore looking and doesn't seem to bother him. But not sure how or what to do on the matter. .. any advice would be great.

Sometimes they can break bits of their beaks off, which if it stops them eating then will need to be trimmed.

Its not really a problem, I had a female ibera break bits of her beak off. I dont know how, but she was still eating so left well alone. Eventually feeding on solid surface such as slate, it wore away normally and is now fine.
Your tortoises beak is a little on the long side, so it might be worth getting a vet to show you how to file it down yourself.
Or if you have an experienced keeper near you, they could show you how.
Their beaks are just like our nails, and can be filed down:0)

Having looked more closely at the pictures with my glasses on. I would advise going to a vet to get it trimmed, as the right side as you look at it, looks loose.
Better to get a professional to show you first time.
It looks like he/she has bitten on something hard, and its broken away on the bite mark.

She has cuttle fish and eats off slate everyday. It isn't loose at all and isn't affecting her she seems her usual self. Just wanted advice before I took her in for just a beak trim incase anyone else had experience in this split before . Will get her in for a trim

Hi Taszia, how nice to hear from you. Good photographs by the way, nice to see your tortoise(s). I agree with sandy, looks like he has bitten down on something. and just like our nails it has broken/split. I would suggest he has chomped on maybe wire or similar. Very common when the beak gets a little too long as the longer they get the more like our nails they can be in that they are flexible. If you were confident you could do a little trim with nail clippers (male size ones), or Vet to trim or a nearby society will often do it free. One of my adults broke bits of her beak similar to that, I didn't do anything about it as she was eating just fine, and now its grown back ok x
